Two things are booked for an Amarnath yatra by helicopter: the official helicopter ticket and yatra registration, which sit with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, and the trip around the helicopter day, which is what our packages arrange.
We do not issue official Amarnath Yatra helicopter tickets. Book official Amarnath helicopter tickets only through the authorised Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) channels. The Board administers the yatra and registration is compulsory for every pilgrim. A Compulsory Health Certificate, issued by an authorised doctor, is part of registration. Slots are allocated and go quickly, so arrange registration and the certificate before you fix your dates.
Our Amarnath Ji Yatra by helicopter packages arrange the days around the flight: road transfers from and to Srinagar airport, hotel nights with breakfast and dinner, and, on the longer packages, sightseeing in Srinagar, Gulmarg or Sonmarg; see helicopter service in Jammu and Kashmir. Each package page names its helicopter sector, but the helicopter tickets and yatra registration are not part of any package: each pilgrim books them through SASB, and we plan the package around that helicopter date. Any confirmation of our services will be given to you in writing by us before you confirm.
Pay only through the authorised SASB channels for an official ticket, or against a written quote from us for a package. An Amarnath helicopter ticket offered any other way is not one to trust.
Pahalgam is the traditional approach. On foot it is considerably longer and gentler, passing Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni. By helicopter you fly from Pahalgam helipad to Panchtarni and back on darshan day. Pahalgam is about 100 km, or a 4-hour drive, from Srinagar airport, and on the 2 nights 3 days package the helicopter starts operating at 06.30 hrs, weather permitting. Packages on this route: 02N/03D and 05N/06D.
Baltal is the short approach: far less distance to the cave, but steep. These packages use Sonmarg as the base. On darshan day a short drive of about 5 km takes you to Neelgrath helipad on the Baltal side, and the helicopter flies to Panjtarni and back. On the 4 nights 5 days package helicopter operations start at 06:00 hrs, weather permitting. Packages on this route: 03N/04D via Sonmarg and 04N/05D.
On either route the helicopter lands at Panjtarni (written Panchtarni on some itineraries), not at the cave. Panjtarni is approximately 6 km from the Holy Cave, covered on foot or by palki or pony hired at your own cost; the 03N/04D itinerary puts it at about 5/6 km and about one and a half hours, depending on the rush of yatris. After darshan you come back to Panjtarni for the flight out. Our article Amarnath by helicopter: should you go via Pahalgam or Baltal? compares the two sides in full.
The Amarnath Ji Yatra by Helicopter 03N/04D via Sonmarg is priced on request: you get a written quote for your date, group size and hotel category (Standard (Budget), Deluxe or Luxury), inclusive of taxes, before anything is paid. Smaller groups and higher hotel categories cost more per person.
That package includes 03 nights on twin sharing, 03 breakfasts and 03 dinners, the Baltal Helipad–Panjtarni–Baltal Helipad helicopter sector, one day of Srinagar sightseeing, a one-hour Shikara ride, transfers by non-A/C vehicle and all taxes. The 02N/03D, 04N/05D and 05N/06D packages are also priced On Request. Send your dates and group through the enquiry form, or call +91-9634801801, and the price comes back in writing.
Whatever the package, the full price is shown to you in writing before you pay, and a minimum amount registers your yatra.
The helicopter covers the long stretch and leaves the final section to be walked or done by pony or palki. Choose the Pahalgam side if you would rather gain height gradually and have the days; choose the Baltal side if you are short on time and genuinely fit, and be honest about the last part.
The route reaches altitude and the weather is unforgiving, which is why the Compulsory Health Certificate exists. Speak to your doctor before you book, and treat the certificate as a real check, not a formality: if a doctor declines to issue one, that is the answer.
Every itinerary is subject to weather, and helicopters fly only when it permits. The yatra dates are set by the Shrine Board each year, and it is a short season, usually falling across the monsoon months. Kashmir weather and yatra-day suspensions both move schedules, so build in spare days and ask what happens if the yatra is suspended on your allotted day.
Yatra registration with the Shrine Board and the Compulsory Health Certificate come first. For a package booking we need each passenger's name, gender, father's name, address and phone, a nominee's contact details, and the ID of the lead passenger. Valid ID proof is a passport, driving licence, election card, PAN card, photo ID issued by Government or a PSU, or school photo ID.
The Amarnath package pages do not state a baggage or weight limit for the helicopter. Ask for it in writing with your quote, before you pack.
