Detailed Itinerary

Chardham Yatra by Helicopter, day by day

Day 01: Arrival in Dehradun

We pick you up at Dehradun airport or railway station (send your arrival details when you book) and take you to your hotel: Hyatt Centric on Option 01, or Taj Foothills Mussoorie or Hyatt Regency on Option 02, or a similar hotel. In the evening our team briefs the group on the yatra and hands out the duffle bags for the things you need on the flights; the rest of your luggage can stay at the hotel. Dinner and the night are at the hotel.

  • Pickup from Dehradun airport or railway station.
  • Evening briefing and duffle bags.
  • Dinner and night in Dehradun.

Day 02: Dehradun to Yamunotri, night at Kharsali

Report at Sahastradhara Helipad by 05:00 AM with a packed breakfast, and fly to Kharsali Helipad (about 28 minutes). Our team meets you there with a pony or palki for the 5 km to Yamunotri Dham. After darshan you come back to Kharsali in the late afternoon for a quiet evening, with dinner and the night at Kalindi Hilltop (Option 01) or Kalindi Kunj (Option 02), or a similar hotel.

  • Sahastradhara Helipad to Kharsali Helipad.
  • Pony or palki from Kharsali to Yamunotri and back.
  • Night at Kharsali.

Day 03: Yamunotri to Gangotri, night at Harsil

After breakfast the group flies from Kharsali to Harsil Helipad (about 28 minutes) and drives about 22 km to Gangotri temple, where a Pandit helps with darshan and is available for a special poojan. The drive runs through the Harsil valley, with dense forest and many places to stop for photographs. Dinner and the night are at Harsil Village Resort (Option 01) or Harsil Resort (Option 02), or a similar hotel at Harsil or Dharali.

  • Kharsali Helipad to Harsil Helipad.
  • Harsil to Gangotri temple and back by car.
  • Night at Harsil or Dharali.

Day 04: Gangotri to Kedarnath, night at Guptkashi

Early in the morning we drive to Harsil Helipad and fly to Sersi (about 30 minutes). From Sersi the Kedarnath helicopter flies up to the temple; each pilgrim books that helicopter ticket on IRCTC in their own name, and switching to it can take around 1 to 2 hours because of backlog, weather and passenger load. The temple is about 500 metres, roughly 15 minutes on foot, from the Kedarnath helipad, and a Pandit leads the group through darshan and poojan. You fly back to Sersi for lunch, can visit Triyuginarayan or Kalimath if you wish, and spend the night at Guptkashi by the Mandakini, at Hotel Nilaya or Amritara Sun Inn (Option 01) or Char Machan (Option 02), or a similar hotel.

  • Harsil Helipad to Sersi Helipad.
  • Sersi to Kedarnath on the IRCTC helicopter, darshan with a Pandit.
  • Night at Guptkashi.

Day 05: Kedarnath to Badrinath, night at Badrinath

After breakfast the group goes to Sersi Helipad and flies to Badrinath (about 30 minutes), then checks in to Yoga Premium (Option 01) or Amritara The Awadh (Option 02), or a similar hotel. After lunch there is a visit to Mana, the last Indian village before the border with China, and in the evening the Swarna Aarti at Badrinath temple, with darshan assistance from a Pandit. Dinner and the night are at Badrinath.

  • Sersi Helipad to Badrinath Helipad.
  • Afternoon visit to Mana village.
  • Evening Swarna Aarti and night at Badrinath.

Day 06: Badrinath to Dehradun (Sahastradhara Helipad)

After breakfast the helicopter flies back to Sahastradhara Helipad, Dehradun (55 to 60 minutes), over forested valleys and the five confluences of Vishnu Prayag, Nanda Prayag, Karna Prayag, Rudra Prayag and Dev Prayag. The package ends with the drop at Dehradun airport or railway station.

Note: There might be a waiting time of around 1 to 2 hours at Phata to switch to the Kedarnath helicopter service. As much as we would like to expedite the transfer to the Kedarnath helicopter, multiple factors like backlog, weather and passenger load on the Kedarnath helicopter service affect the logistics resulting in the wait. All reporting timings from point to point flying will be confirmed to the client from our end. Charters and crew members can be changed as per availability, and timings can change at the last moment as per availability or weather conditions.

Planning Guide

Chardham yatra by helicopter: the route

A Chardham yatra by helicopter visits the four dhams in their traditional order, west to east: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. This package keeps to that order over 5 nights and 6 days, starting and ending in Dehradun. By road the same circuit takes ten to twelve days of long hill drives; by helicopter each move between dhams is a flight of about half an hour.

The helicopter does not land at the temple door. It flies between valley helipads, and the last stretch to each temple is covered by pony, palki, car or a short walk. The table below shows the helipads named in the itinerary and the approximate flying time for each sector.

The six days in plain words

Day 1, Dehradun. You are met at Dehradun airport or railway station and taken to the hotel. In the evening the team gives the tour briefing and hands out the duffle bags you will carry on the helicopter. Arrival details are needed at the time of booking.

Day 2, Yamunotri. The earliest start of the yatra: report at the helipad latest by 05:00 AM with a packed breakfast. Extra baggage stays in the hotel. You fly from Sahastradhara to Kharsali, where a pony or palki is reserved for the 5 km stretch to Yamunotri Dham. You return in the late afternoon and stay the night in Kharsali.

Day 3, Gangotri. After breakfast the group flies from Kharsali to Harsil and drives to Gangotri temple for darshan. The night is at Harsil or Dharali.

Day 4, Kedarnath. The group flies from Harsil to Sersi, then on to Kedarnath. The temple is about 500 metres from the helipad. A Pandit leads the group to darshan, and after the puja you fly back to Sersi for lunch, with an optional visit to Triyuginarayan or Kalimath, and stay the night at Guptkashi. Expect a wait of around 1 to 2 hours to switch to the Kedarnath helicopter.

Day 5, Badrinath. You fly from Sersi to Badrinath and check in to the hotel. After lunch there is sightseeing at Mana village, and in the evening the Swarna Aarti at Badrinath temple.

Day 6, back to Dehradun. After breakfast the flight to Sahastradhara passes over Vishnu Prayag, Nanda Prayag, Karna Prayag, Rudra Prayag and Dev Prayag, and the tour ends with the drop at Dehradun airport or railway station.

The rhythm of each day is the same: an early start, because mornings give the clearest flying, a short flight, darshan, then rest. Reporting times for each sector are confirmed by our team, and timings can change at the last moment with weather or availability.

Chardham helicopter yatra price

The Chardham yatra by helicopter costs INR 2,25,000 per person with Option 01 (Hyatt Centric in Dehradun) and INR 2,35,000 per person with Option 02 (Taj Foothills Mussoorie or Hyatt Regency in Dehradun), both for 05N/06D, inclusive of taxes and State Govt. royalty, on a minimum of 06 passengers per departure. Children above 2 years pay the adult fare, and the rates are not for a single person. These are the 2026 rates; the written quote confirms the final price for your date.

The price covers the helicopter transfers, one night each in Dehradun, Kharsali, Harsil, Guptkashi or Sitapur and Badrinath, the daily meal plan (only dinner on the day of arrival), pony or palki at Yamunotri, car service at Gangotri and Badrinath, the puja booking with the temple committee where available at Kedarnath, Pandit-guided darshan at each dham, airport assistance, transport with driver and escort, and all prevailing taxes.

It does not cover the INR 3,000 per person extra fuel surcharge, the Kedarnath helicopter ticket (booked and paid by you on heliyatra.irctc.co.in), travel to Dehradun, personal expenses, a stay at Kedarnath, or anything not listed in the inclusions. The full lists are above.

What drives the cost of a Chardham helicopter package

Two Chardham quotes can differ widely for the same four dhams. Almost all of the gap comes from five things:

  • The aircraft. The cost per pilgrim reflects the aircraft's hourly cost and how many passengers share it. Ask which helicopter type you are being quoted for.
  • Sharing or charter. A place on a fixed-departure group package costs less than a whole aircraft for your dates.
  • The season. Opening days, festival weeks and the clear weeks of May, June, September and October are the most sought after.
  • Hotel category. Often the real difference between two packages, as it is between Option 1 and Option 2 here.
  • What is left out. Pony and palki at Yamunotri and Pandit-guided darshan are often extra elsewhere; here they are in the inclusions.

Compare the aircraft, sharing or charter, hotels, exclusions and the terms for a weather-cancelled sector, not the headline number. More in what drives the cost of a Chardham helicopter package.

Private charter or fixed departure?

This page is a complete private Chardham charter package with selected hotels, meals and darshan arrangements built in. A fixed departure is a place on a group package on set dates that runs whether or not you are on it: you share the aircraft with other pilgrims, the itinerary is set, and it is the cheaper way in. A charter is shaped around your group and costs what an aircraft costs.

Let group size decide. Families of five or six often assume they need a charter and do not; large groups often assume a fixed departure will stretch to fit them and it will not. Compare the two on the Chardham fixed departure by helicopter page, which sets out its own price, hotels and terms.

Who the helicopter yatra suits

Most families who ask about the Chardham yatra by helicopter are asking for a parent or grandparent. The helicopter removes the long road days, and at Kedarnath the helicopter lands a few hundred metres from the temple instead of a long trek. It does not remove the altitude or the last climb.

  • Yamunotri is the hardest dham: a steep path from Kharsali, which most older pilgrims cover by pony or palki.
  • Gangotri is reached by road from the Harsil helipad, with no climb.
  • Kedarnath is the highest, at about 3,580 metres; the walk is short but the altitude is felt.
  • Badrinath, at about 3,100 metres, is the gentlest, with a car from the helipad.

Anyone with heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions should see a doctor before booking, and a fitness certificate for high altitude is strongly advised. Plan one companion for every two older pilgrims, booked on the same flights, keep medicines and warm layers in the hand bag, and tell us the ages and any health concerns when you enquire. Read Chardham yatra by helicopter for senior citizens for the detail.

Best time to go, and why to keep a spare day

The temples set the season and the weather sets the flying. The dhams open around Akshaya Tritiya in late April or early May and close between late October and mid-November, with exact dates announced each year. May and June are the first good window, clear and busy. September and October are the second, and for many pilgrims the better one: clear air after the monsoon and smaller crowds. July and August bring monsoon rain, cloud and landslides, with many no-fly days. Nights at Kedarnath can drop below zero in September and October, so pack warm.

Even in the best months a morning can start cloudy and clear by noon, and a four-dham plan has four chances to be interrupted. Build a spare day into your travel at either end, so a weather delay becomes a short wait rather than a missed darshan or a missed flight home. See the best time for Chardham yatra by helicopter, month by month.

Registration and documents

Every Chardham pilgrim must register with the Uttarakhand government, by helicopter or by road, and the helicopter booking does not register you. Registration is free on the official portal, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, and the IRCTC Kedarnath helicopter service asks for each passenger's yatra registration number, so register first.

For the passenger list we need each traveller's full name, age or date of birth, gender, a government photo ID (foreign nationals use their passport), accurate body weight, contact details, and the gotra if a puja is to be performed in their name. On the day, carry the original ID used for the booking, the yatra registration, the booking confirmation and the IRCTC helicopter ticket. Names must match the ID exactly. The checklist is in Chardham yatra registration and documents for helicopter pilgrims.

Weight, baggage and the Kedarnath helicopter service

Helicopters at Himalayan altitude fly to a load calculation, and passenger weight is part of it. Give each passenger's accurate weight at booking; passengers are usually weighed at the helipad, and passengers above 75 kg pay an excess weight charge per kilogram, set out in the booking terms. Baggage is 3 kg per passenger, carried in the duffle bag handed out at the Dehradun briefing; the rest of your luggage stays at the hotel.

At Kedarnath, the package includes the puja booking with the temple committee where available, but not the helicopter between the base helipad and the temple: each pilgrim books that helicopter themselves. We do not sell helicopter tickets. Please do not contact us for tickets.

What to check before you pay

  • Who flies it. A booking site sells the package; a licensed aviation company flies it. Ask which company operates each sector.
  • The full price in writing, for your date, package option and group size, including the INR 3,000 per person fuel surcharge.
  • What happens if weather stops a sector: if weather stops a Dham visit, the flying cost of about INR 20,000 per Dham per seat is refunded; we first try to complete the darshan the next day.
  • The exclusions, so you know what you will pay on the way, such as the IRCTC helicopter fare.
  • Cancellation and rescheduling: a 5% administrative fee applies to any cancellation. Up to 30 days before departure 30% of the package amount is charged, up to 20 days before 50%, and within 14 days of departure or for a no-show there is no refund; a credit note is issued. Rescheduling up to 15 days before travel costs 20% of the package. See our terms and conditions.
  • Weights and IDs for every passenger, matching what each person carries on the day.

An operator that promises certainty in the Garhwal Himalaya is promising something nobody controls. The mountain decides; a good plan allows for it.

How to book the Chardham yatra by helicopter

  1. Send your preferred dates, group size, package option and the ages of the travellers through the enquiry form below or by phone.
  2. We confirm the departure, availability and a written quote for the 05N/06D yatra.
  3. Register every pilgrim on the Uttarakhand portal and send the passenger details: names as on ID, weights and arrival details.
  4. Pay 50% of the tour cost to confirm the booking; the balance is due 30 days before departure.
  5. Book the Kedarnath helicopter tickets yourself on IRCTC, in each pilgrim's own name.
  6. Arrive in Dehradun on Day 1 for the evening briefing.

The steps are explained in how the Chardham helicopter booking actually works.

Chardham or Do Dham by helicopter?

The Do Dham yatra by helicopter 3N/4D (from INR 1,42,000 per person) covers Kedarnath and Badrinath in 3 nights and 4 days, without the Yamunotri climb, and the Do Dham same day trip (INR 1,37,000 per person) does both in one flying day. Chardham adds Yamunotri and Gangotri to the west, which is where the extra days and most of the extra flying go. If you have five clear days, reasonable fitness across the whole group and a spare day for weather, Chardham works well. If any one of those is missing, Do Dham done calmly is the better yatra. The comparison is in Do Dham or Chardham by helicopter: which to choose, and every option is compared on Chardham Yatra by helicopter.

It is a 5 Nights / 6 Days journey from Dehradun covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The package combines helicopter transfers, selected accommodation, meals, local transfers and Pandit-guided darshan, subject to weather and operational conditions.
What is the Chardham Yatra by Helicopter cost in 2026?
INR 2,25,000 per person with Option 01 hotels (Hyatt Centric in Dehradun) and INR 2,35,000 per person with Option 02 (Taj Foothills Mussoorie or Hyatt Regency), for 05N/06D, inclusive of taxes and State Govt. royalty, on a minimum of 06 passengers per departure. It is not for a single person, and children above 2 years pay the adult fare. The price covers the helicopter flights, five hotel nights, meals, pony or palki at Yamunotri, cars at Gangotri and Badrinath and darshan assistance with a Pandit at each Dham. The INR 3,000 per person fuel surcharge and the Kedarnath helicopter (booked by each pilgrim on IRCTC) are extra. These are the 2026 rates; the written quote confirms the price for your date.
What is the Dehradun to Chardham Yatra by Helicopter route?
The route runs Dehradun, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath Ji, Badrinath Ji and back to Dehradun over six days, flying from Sahastradhara Helipad. It is planned for pilgrims seeking a time-efficient way to complete the four Dhams.
How do I book the Chardham Yatra by Helicopter?
Deposit 50% of the tour cost to process the booking, with the balance payable 30 days before departure. Before confirmation, review the required identity documents, weight rules, baggage allowance, payment schedule, rescheduling terms and cancellation policy.
What is included in the package?
The package includes helicopter transfers, one-night stays at Dehradun, Kharsali, Harsil, Guptkashi or Sitapur and Badrinath, meals as specified, pony/palki at Yamunotri, car service at Gangotri and Badrinath, puja booking with the temple committee where available at Kedarnath, Pandit-guided darshan at each Dham, airport assistance, transportation and all prevailing taxes.
How much baggage and weight is allowed?
Only 3 kg of baggage per passenger is permitted, as helicopter baggage space is limited. Accurate passenger weight must be provided at booking; a maximum of 06 passengers fly in one helicopter with a total weight of no more than 410 kg, and passengers above 75 kg pay INR 2,500 per kg (Char Dham), per passenger.
Which helipads does the Chardham helicopter package use?
The flights start from Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun and land at Kharsali for Yamunotri, Harsil for Gangotri, Sersi for Kedarnath and Badrinath Helipad, before returning to Sahastradhara on Day 6. From Kharsali the 5 km to Yamunotri is by pony or palki, from Harsil Gangotri is around 22 km by car, and at Kedarnath the temple is about 500 metres from the helipad.
Do helicopter pilgrims need Chardham yatra registration?
Yes. Every pilgrim must register with the Uttarakhand government, by helicopter or by road; the helicopter booking does not register you. Registration is free on the official portal, and the IRCTC Kedarnath helicopter asks for each passenger's yatra registration number, so register first.
Is the Chardham yatra by helicopter suitable for senior citizens?
For many, yes: the helicopter removes the long road days. It does not remove the altitude, with Kedarnath at about 3,580 metres, or the climb from Kharsali to Yamunotri, which most older pilgrims cover by pony or palki. A doctor's fitness certificate for high altitude is strongly advised, and one companion for every two older pilgrims is a good plan. Do Dham, without Yamunotri, is often the gentler choice.
What is the best time for the Chardham yatra by helicopter?
May and June are the first good window, and September and October the second, with clear air after the monsoon and smaller crowds. July and August bring monsoon rain and many no-fly days. Whatever the month, keep a spare day at either end for weather.
Is this a private charter or a fixed departure?
This page is a complete private Chardham charter package with hotels, meals and darshan arrangements included. A fixed departure is a place on our fixed-departure group package, shared with other pilgrims; it is the cheaper way in and the itinerary is set. Compare both on the Chardham fixed departure by helicopter page.
Which hotels are used on Option 01 and Option 02?
Option 01 (INR 2,25,000 per person): Hyatt Centric in Dehradun, Kalindi Hilltop at Kharsali, Harsil Village Resort at Harsil, Hotel Nilaya or Amritara Sun Inn at Guptkashi and Yoga Premium at Badrinath. Option 02 (INR 2,35,000 per person): Taj Foothills Mussoorie or Hyatt Regency in Dehradun, Kalindi Kunj at Kharsali, Harsil Resort at Harsil, Char Machan at Guptkashi and Amritara The Awadh at Badrinath. A similar hotel may be used if one is full.
Is the Kedarnath helicopter ticket included in the Chardham package?
No. The Kedarnath helicopter is booked by each pilgrim themselves; we do not sell helicopter tickets. The package includes the puja booking with the temple committee where available at Kedarnath. Expect a wait of around 1 to 2 hours to switch to the helicopter.
Is there a Chardham helicopter package from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore or Ahmedabad?
The package starts and ends in Dehradun, at the same price whichever city you come from: INR 2,25,000 (Option 01) or INR 2,35,000 (Option 02) per person, inclusive of taxes and State Govt. royalty, for a minimum of 06 passengers. Fly to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, or come by train: we pick you up at the airport or railway station on Day 01 and drop you back there on Day 06.
