Renting a helicopter in India

Renting a helicopter means hiring the whole aircraft, with its pilots, for your own route and date, rather than buying a seat on a scheduled flight. In India this is a private charter: a permit-holding operator flies it, and you pay for the flying the trip needs, quoted before you book.

BookHelicopter.com arranges helicopter hire across India from its base in Dehradun. Send the route, the date, how many are flying and what the flight is for, and we come back with what operators can offer and a written quote. Nothing is booked or paid until you accept it.

Your Route

Point to point, a circuit, or a day on standby.

Right Aircraft

Single-engine for short hops, twin-engine for longer sectors and VIP movement.

Permit-Holding Operators

Flown only by operators cleared for that kind of flight.

Written Quote

The rent in writing, with what it includes, before you pay.

What People Hire For

Every kind of helicopter hire

Weddings & Events

Couple arrivals, guest transfers, flower showering.

Yatra & Pilgrimage

Chardham, Do Dham, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Amarnath.

Business & Travel

Point-to-point trips between cities and hill towns.

What you can hire a helicopter for

What decides the rent of a helicopter

There is no single rate card, because each hire is put together for the trip. The main things that decide the quote are:

  • Flying time. You pay for the time the helicopter is in the air on your trip.
  • Positioning. If the helicopter has to fly from its base to your starting point and back, that flying is part of the price.
  • The aircraft. A single-engine helicopter costs less to fly than a twin-engine one; twin-engine aircraft suit longer sectors and VIP movement.
  • Seats. Most single-engine helicopters seat five or six, so the cost is shared across the group.
  • Landing permissions. Landing somewhere other than an airport or an established helipad needs permission, which takes time and may add cost.
  • Your dates. Availability depends on which operators have a helicopter free on the day, and the busy yatra and wedding seasons fill first.

So the rent is shared on request: send the route, date and passengers and you get a written quote that says what is included.

How hiring a helicopter works

  1. Send the route, the date, how many are flying (with each passenger's weight) and the purpose of the flight, here or on +91-9634801801.
  2. The requirement goes to the operators who fly that kind of mission, and their quotations come back with validity, inclusions and flying hours on each one.
  3. You choose and accept a quote; the booking is confirmed once it is paid as the quote sets out.
  4. Landing permissions are arranged where the route needs them, and the operator confirms the reporting time and place.

Plan early for a wedding, an event or a date in the yatra season, and keep a spare date in mind, because helicopters fly in daylight and fair weather only and the pilot has the final say on the day.

Where you can hire a helicopter

Most of our flying is in Uttarakhand, from Dehradun: see helicopter service in Uttarakhand and helicopter service in Dehradun. A helicopter can be hired elsewhere in India on enquiry too, wherever an operator can fly there and the permissions can be arranged; see helicopter services in India.

What to check before you pay

  • The operator. Ask which operator will fly you; every hire is flown by a permit-holding operator, not by us.
  • A written quote. It should state the aircraft, the flying time, the route and date, and what is and is not included.
  • Weather and refunds. Ask what happens if weather or a permission stops the flight, and what the refund terms are.
  • Payment. Pay only against the written quote, and never into a personal account.

Questions

Helicopter on Rent in India, FAQs

How much does it cost to hire a helicopter in India?
There is no single rate card. The rent depends on the flying time, positioning the helicopter from its base, single or twin engine, landing permissions and your dates, so it is shared on request. Send the route, date and passengers, or call +91-9634801801, for a written quote.
Can I hire a helicopter for a wedding or an event?
Yes. A helicopter can be hired for the couple's arrival, guest transfers, the departure after the vidaai or flower showering, quoted in writing before booking and subject to landing permission at the venue.
How many people can travel in a hired helicopter?
Most single-engine helicopters seat five or six passengers, so a small group can fly together. Each passenger's weight is asked for in advance, because it decides how many can fly at once.
Where can I hire a helicopter?
Most of our flying is in Uttarakhand, from Dehradun. A helicopter can be hired elsewhere in India on enquiry, wherever an operator can fly there and the permissions can be arranged.
How far in advance should I book a helicopter on rent?
As early as you can, especially for a wedding, an event or a date in the yatra season, when helicopters fill first. Keep a spare date in mind, as flights run in daylight and fair weather only.
