Helicopter ride in Rishikesh

Rishikesh is where the Ganga leaves the Himalaya and spreads into the plains, and a short helicopter flight shows that in a way no viewpoint can: the river curving out of the gorge, Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula across it, the ashrams and ghats down to Triveni Ghat, and the green ridges of the foothills on every side.

A joy ride takes off and lands at the same place, typically from Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun, about 20 km from Rishikesh, or from a helipad cleared for the flight. It suits a family on a Rishikesh holiday, a couple marking an occasion, or anyone who wants to see the Ganga valley from above before or after a yatra.

Tell us your date, how many are flying and the flight time you want, and we will come back with what operators can offer and a written quote. The price is shared on request, as it depends on the operator, the minutes in the air and where the helicopter flies from.

What you see on a Rishikesh joy ride

The flight follows the Ganga valley. From the air you see the river come out of the gorge above Shivpuri, the rafting stretch, Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, the ashrams on both banks and the evening-aarti ghats down to Triveni Ghat. Around them are the forested hills towards Neelkanth Mahadev and, to the south and west, the Rajaji forests and the plains towards Haridwar.

The exact route is set by the operator and the permissions for that day, since some areas around the town can be closed to low flying. Ask for the route with the quote.

Best time to fly

  • October to March: the clearest air, with the best chance of seeing the hills beyond the foothills. Mornings are crisp and usually calm.
  • April to June: the busy season in Rishikesh. Flights run, but afternoon haze softens the view.
  • July to September: monsoon. The Ganga is high and brown, and cloud and rain cancel many flights.

Flights run in daylight and fair weather only, and the pilot has the final say on the day. Keep a spare date if you can.

How the day works

Reach the airport or helipad before your slot; the operator gives the reporting time when the booking is confirmed. Bring a photo ID for every passenger, as names are checked against the booking. Each passenger is weighed at check-in, the crew gives a short safety briefing, and you board. The flight lasts from a few minutes to about half an hour, depending on what you booked, and lands back where it started.

What decides the price

  • Flying minutes. You pay for time in the air.
  • Seats filled. A five or six seat helicopter costs less per head when the whole group flies together.
  • Where it flies from. Positioning a helicopter to a helipad near Rishikesh is part of the price; flying from Jolly Grant often costs less.
  • Your date. Weekends, holidays and festival days fill first.

Send your date, group size and the flight time you want, and we reply with a written quote that says what is included.

Rishikesh, Haridwar and the Kumbh

Haridwar is about 25 km down the Ganga. During the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh, from 14 January to 20 April 2027, many pilgrims stay in Rishikesh, and short rides over the Mela are flown where the administration allows them; see Kumbh Mela helicopter joy ride.
