How to reach the Haridwar Kumbh 2027: by road, rail, air and helicopter
The Haridwar Kumbh runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027. Here is how to get there by road, rail, air or helicopter, and how to plan around the Amrit Snan crowds.
The Ardh Kumbh at Haridwar runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027, and the busiest days are the three Amrit Snans on 6 March, 8 March and 14 April. Getting there is easy on an ordinary day and hard on a bathing day. This is how the options compare.
By road from Delhi
Haridwar is about 220 km from Delhi by road. During the Kumbh, expect diversions, parking zones outside the Mela area and walking or shuttle transport for the last stretch to the ghats, especially around the Amrit Snans. Leave early and arrive the day before any bathing day you plan to attend.
By train
Haridwar is on the main rail line, with direct trains from Delhi and other cities. Trains fill early for the Kumbh, so book as soon as your dates are fixed, and allow for crowds at the station on snan days.
By air
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun, about 35 km from Haridwar. From there it is a road journey into Haridwar, which slows down sharply around the bathing days.
By helicopter
A helicopter charter to Haridwar takes your group from Dehradun, Delhi or another city on your own date, landing at a helipad or airport cleared for the flight. It suits families with elders and groups short on time. Flying near the Mela needs the administration's permission, and the main bathing days are the most restricted, so a charter is easiest on the days in between. Every charter is quoted in writing; see how a charter price is worked out.
Short helicopter rides over the Ganga and the Mela run only where operators get the administration's permission; ask for the dates and price once they are announced.
Where to stay
Staying close to the ghats saves the hardest part of the journey on a bathing day. Our partner Pulp Hotels runs four Kumbh camps: Bairagi Camp in the Mela zone, Neel Dhara 1 to 2 km from Har Ki Pauri, Daksh Dweep in Kankhal and a camp near Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh.
